McDowell Golf Course Under New Operation

A historic golf course that has provided recreational opportunities to the citizens of McDowell County since 1925 is now under a new operation service contract, officials said Tuesday.

The Blackwolf Links, formerly the Gary Country Club, is being operated by the McDowell County Economic Development Authority through a new operation service contract with Gaetano “Mike” Capparelli of Northfork, county Economic Development Coordinator Rachel Lester said.

“Mr. Capparelli will have full responsibility for operating the golf course in a manner consistent with achieving the EDA's objective of lifestyle enhancement for county citizens and their guests,” Lester said. “The golf course is open to the public.”

Lester said the historic links provide a vital recreational service to county residents.

“We feel recreational development in the county is an important part of economic development, and it helps to enhance the quality of life for McDowell Countians,” Lester said. “It's a nice little course for the county.”

Lester said fee schedules for the links are available upon request. The golf course can be reached by dialing 383-4615. Lester said residents seeking general information about the links also can call the authority office at 436-3833.
